Deolin Tablet
COMPOSITION : Each tablet contains drotaverine hydrochloride 40 mg.
ACTION : Drotaverine is an analogue of papaverine with spasmolytic action on smooth muscle of gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract and urinary tract. It causes smooth muscle relaxation by increasing intracellular levels of cyclic adenosince monophosphate (cAMP) secondary to inhibition of phosphodiesterase. The spasmolytic effect of drotaverine is stronger and last longer than papaverine.
PHARMACOKINETICS : After a single 80 mg dose, peak plasma levels are achieved after 1 to 3 hours and absolute bioavailability varies from 24.5% to 91%, protein binding and its metabolites is between 80% and 95%; elimination half-life is approximately 9 hours.
INDICATION : Relieve spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, biliary tract², irritable bowel syndrome¹, renal colic³, dysmenorrhea⁴. 120 to 240mg daily in divided doses².
CONTRAINDICATION : Prior hypersensitivity to drotaverine; porphyria
